COACH ROADMAP

The mission of America SCORES is to inspire youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to be agents of positive change in their communities.



THE ROLE OF A SCORES COACH

    1. Organize, encourage, and lead your team using the SCORES curriculum.

    2. Plan for your sessions and create a positive learning environment for all your students.

    3. Host a pre-season Family Meeting to encourage engagement and participation throughout the year.

    4. Run SCORES programs on a weekly basis for 12-15 weeks each season (Fall and Spring) for 12-20 students.

    5. Complete SCORES U online coach training and orientation through www.ScoresU.org/coach (get SCORES gear upon completion).

    6. Distribute, collect, and turn in SCORES registration forms for each student.

    7. Take attendance for SCORES sessions in SCORES Attendance App.

    8. Communicate regularly about the program with after school staff, other SCORES at your site coaches, and families.

    1. Run at least two (2) one-hour soccer practices each week for 12-15 weeks for 12-20 students.

    2. Lead fun physical activities, warm ups, games, and skill building. Teach soccer skills, rules, and strategy. Promote healthy eating and hydration.

    3. Attend in-person Soccer Coach Trainings and online coach meetings.

    4. Model and teach the SCORES core values: commitment, leadership, fair play and teamwork.

    5. Prepare for and attend weekly Game Days and community events.

    1. Lead fun and engaging poetry and literacy activities.

    2. Model motivation and excitement about poetry, music, writing, diverse forms of literacy, and community building.

    3. Teach and celebrate the SCORES core values: commitment, leadership, and teamwork.

    4. Run two (2) one-hour poetry workshops (service learning workshops in spring) each week for 12-15 weeks per season (Fall and Spring) for 12-20 students.

    5. Attend poetry coach training in fall and service learning coach training in spring.

    6. Attend coach meetings and special events.

    7. Encourage each student on the team to complete at least 2 poems.

    8. Submit poems (photo, typed up, physical copy) to SCORES staff for Written Poetry Contest.

    9. Prepare 1-3 students for Winter Poetry SLAM.

    10. Attend Winter Poetry SLAM.

    11. Do a Service Learning Project with your team in spring.

    12. Prepare for and present your Service Learning Project to the community.


 
 

FALL CALENDAR

    • Create a positive and fun team culture in your practices and classes!

    • Prep for Soccer & run soccer practices

    • Prep for Poetry & lead Poetry Lessons

    • Do Game Days!

    • Fitness Challenge (PACER Test)*** Ask you SCORES Point of Contact if your team should do the pre-season fitness challenge.

    • Take attendance daily

    • Continue to inspire students to make art, write poetry.

    • Prep for Poetry & work on revision and writing final drafts.

    • Prep for Soccer & run practices

    • Continue with Game Days

    • Prepare students to submit poems for Poetry Contest

    • Collect & turn in Poetry Contest entries to your SCORES Contact

    • Continue with soccer practices and poetry classes

    • Have an end of season special event or Jamboree soccer tournament

    • Give awards for outstanding Poetry Contest entries and give out prizes for all contest participants.

    • Identify Poetry SLAM participants and discuss with your SCORES Contact

    • Prepare students to participate in the Poetry SLAM

    • Last week of program: reflect & have a team party!
