America SCORES Bay Area (“Bay Area SCORES,” “we” or “us”) understands that you care about how we collect, use, and share information when you interact with our websites, webinars, social media sites and handles, email, and other online services (our “Services”), and we value the trust you place in us. This Privacy Policy explains:

  • the types of information we collect through our Services

  • how we use and protect that information

  • the types of information we may share with others and under what circumstances

  • the choices you have regarding our collection, use, and sharing practices

  • details regarding our use of third-party cookies and other tracking technologies

This Policy applies when you interact with us through our Services. It also applies anywhere it is linked. It does not apply to non-Bay Area SCORES websites and mobile applications that may link to the Services or be linked to or from the Services; please review the privacy policies on those websites and applications directly to understand their privacy practices.

 

Information We Collect

Information You Give Us

Some of the Services may include features or services that permit you to enter contact information and other information about you. We collect and store any information you enter on our Services. This includes:

  • Contact and demographic information when completing forms or registering to use our Services.

  • If you engage in sports activities, we will collect information about your health, such as aerobic status, for safety purposes.

  • Payment information and associated contact information when engaging in a transaction on our site.

  • Email address information when subscribing to our email newsletters.

  • Any information, data, or content you provide by interacting in our online forums and contests, or by commenting on content posted on our Services. This may include your name, school, grade, and location (city), in addition to any multimedia content that you choose to share. Please note that any comments you post are also visible to other users of our Services.

  • Information you provide when you complete a survey administered by us or a service provider acting on our behalf.

  • If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence and any contact information provided.

  • Information you provide when you sponsor or donate to us. 

Information We Collect Automatically

When you interact with the Services, certain information about your use of our Services is collected automatically. This includes:

  • Details of your visits to our site and information generated in the course of the use of our site (including the timing, frequency, and pattern of service use) including, but not limited to, traffic data, location data, weblogs and other communication data, the resources that you access, and how you reached our site.

  • Information about how you interact with our ads and newsletters, including whether you open or click links in any correspondence.

  • Information that you make available to us on a social media platform (such as by clicking on a social media icon linked from our Services), including your account ID or username and other information included in your posts.

We use cookies and other technologies to provide features on our Services. We also partner with other companies that use these technologies to collect information about your use of our Services.

How We Use Youth Information

We may use the information we collect for the following purposes:

Provide our Services: To provide you with our Services, including to take steps to enter into a contract for sale or for services, process payments, fulfill orders, ship product, send service communications, provide maintenance and support, and conduct general business operations such as accounting, recordkeeping, and audits.

Analytics: To create data that allows us to improve and grow our business, including to measure the effectiveness of ads, understand how our Services are being used, understand our user base, understand the effectiveness of our marketing, market our products, and develop new products and services.

Personalization and Ads:

  • To personalize the Services to your preferences.

  • To contact you with personalized marketing and advertising about our products and services.

  • To deliver personalized advertising to you online, which may be based on your preferences or interests across services and devices.

Security and Legal Compliance:

  • To protect and secure our Services, assets, network, and business operations, and to detect, investigate, and prevent activities that may violate our policies or be fraudulent or illegal.

How We Secure the Information We Collect From or About You

We use a combination of physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect the information we collect through the Services. While we use these precautions to safeguard your information, we cannot guarantee the security of the networks, systems, servers, devices, and databases we operate or that are operated on our behalf.

How We Share Your Information

  • Service Providers: The business functions our vendors support include: services that support our Services; customer service; billing and collection; auditing and accounting; professional services; analytics services; security; information technology services; and marketing.

  • Social Media Platforms: Where you choose to interact with us through social media, your interaction with these programs typically allows the social media company to collect some information about you through digital cookies they place on your device and other tracking mechanisms they place on your device. In some cases, the social media company may recognize you through its digital cookies even when you do not interact with their application. Please visit the social media companies’ respective privacy policies to better understand their data collection practices and the controls they make available to you.

  • Online Advertising Partners: We partner with companies that assist us in advertising about our Services to others who may be interested in the Services. We also partner with companies who use cookies to display interest-based advertising to you. These companies may use tracking technologies on our website to collect or receive information from the Services and elsewhere on the internet and then use that information to measure and target ads.

  • Affiliates: We share data with America SCORES chapters based in other regions.

  • School Partners: We share data with our School Partners to provide the Services to students at the institution.

Our Collection of Personal Information from Children 

We collect the personal information of children from their parents with their parents’ consent. For example, to participate in soccer matches, we require parents to submit forms with their children’s information. We may also ask parents for permission to display their child’s name, photograph, audio, and information about their child’s activities with us on our website or in our other publications. For example, we feature children’s poetry on our “Poets” page. 

Online, we may collect personal information from children who take advantage of the learning programs on ScoresU.org. The information we may collect through ScoresU.org includes the child’s name. For example, when a child participates in an “Art & Poetry Quest,” he or she may submit his or her name to continue through the prompts. 

We use the personal information we collect solely to facilitate our Services, or otherwise consistent with parents’ consent. We will retain children’s information only so long as reasonably necessary in connection with a specific activity or publication, to ensure the security of Bay Area SCORES participants and Service, or as required by law. We may disclose the personal information we collect to our service providers to support our internal operations. 

Parents may request to review their child’s personal information, delete it, or refuse to permit us to further collect it. To exercise these options, please use the contact information below. 

Additional Information

Sharing of Aggregated Data

We may share aggregated or de-identified data at our discretion, including with affiliates, sponsors, marketing agencies, media agencies and analytics providers. These other companies will not be able to relate this data to identifiable individuals.

Combination of Information

We may combine information from the Services together and with other information we obtain from our business records. 

Change of Ownership or Corporate Organization

We may transfer to another entity or its affiliates or service providers some or all information about you in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, acquisition, sale of assets or any line of business, change in ownership control, or financing transaction. We cannot promise that an acquiring party or the merged entity will have the same privacy practices or treat your information the same as described in this Policy.

Cross-border Transfer of Data

If you use our Services outside of the United States, you understand that we may collect, process, and store your information in the United States and other countries. The laws in the U.S. regarding information may be different from the laws of your state or country. Any such transfers will comply with safeguards as required by relevant law. By using the Services, you consent to the collection, international transfer, storage, and processing of your data.

Your Choices to Control Your Information

Your Account: Please visit the “Online Account Portal” page to update your contact information and payment options.

Email Unsubscribe: If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, you can click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email newsletter, or email us at support@americascoresbayarea.org and we will promptly remove you from all correspondence.

Ad Choices and Cookies: If you wish to limit third-parties’ ability to collect information about you on our Services and across the internet, you can learn more about the options available to you by visiting the websites for the Network Advertising Initiative, the Digital Advertising Alliance, or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Initiative. You may also visit the privacy policy and opt-out links we provide in the “Information Collected from Web Technologies” section.

Please note that opting out of advertising networks services does not mean that you will not receive advertising while using our Services or on other websites, nor will it prevent the receipt of interest-based advertising from other companies that do not participate in these programs. It will, however, exclude you from interest-based advertising conducted through participating networks, as provided by their policies and choice mechanisms. If you delete your cookies, you may also delete your opt-out preferences.

Your browser or device may include “Do Not Track” functionality. We do not honor Do Not Track signals at this time.

Any or all of our activities with regard to collecting usage information may be performed on our behalf by other companies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies but, if you prefer, you can usually modify your browser setting to disable or reject cookies. Access, Deletion, and Opt-out from Certain Disclosures: You may request access to the information we collected about you or your child and information regarding the source of that information, the purposes for which we collect it, and the third parties and service providers with whom we share it. You also may, in certain circumstances, request that we delete personal information.

You may submit such requests as described below. To protect your Personal Information, we will verify your identify before acting on your request. We may have a reason why we will not comply with your request, or why we may comply with it in a more limited way than you anticipated. If we do, we will explain that to you in our response.

How to Submit a Request for Access, Deletion, and Opt-out from Certain Disclosures:

You may submit a request to exercise any of your rights using the contact information below. We may have a reason under the law why we do not have to comply with your request, or may comply with it in a more limited way than you anticipated. If we do, we will explain that to you in our response.

California residents may authorize another individual or a business registered with the California Secretary of State, called an authorized agent, to make requests on your behalf through these means. We will require your or your chosen agent to verify that the agent is making a request on your behalf.

In order to process your request, we must verify your identity to protect your and others’ information. We verify your identity by asking you to provide personal identifiers we can match against information we may have collected from you previously. We will also confirm your request using the email or telephone account stated in the request.

We will not use personal information we collect in connection with verifying or responding to your request for any purpose other than responding to your request. 

Parents/Guardians:

A parent/guardian of a minor child may ask us to give them access to their child’s information, delete it, or revoke their consent for us to use it. We require that the parent/guardian submit the child’s birth certificate or other legal document establishing guardianship in order to make requests on the child’s behalf, in addition to a government-issued ID establishing the parent/guardian’s own identity.

Changes to This Policy

We may make changes to this Policy from time to time. We will post any changes here, and such changes will become effective when they are posted. Your continued use of our Services following the posting of any changes will mean you accept those changes.
